Manchester City to go back using £25m make available with regard to Jonny Evans.

Manchester City will launch a third bid, of more than £25 million, to sign Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion.

City’s latest offer, worth £18 million, was rejected last week but Pep Guardiola, the head coach, is determined to sign the former Manchester United centre back. First, though, he must offload Eliaquim Mangala, whom they have been trying to sell all summer but who is likely to now leave on loan to Inter Milan.

Evans’s transfer to City is also not expected to take place until West Brom have signed a replacement. Tony Pulis, the West Brom head coach, is keen to sign Kevin Wimmer, as well as his Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Vincent Janssen, the striker. One factor that could help to speed up Evans’s move is that he will be training at City’s Football Academy next week with Northern Ireland before their World Cup qualifier away to San Marino a week today.

West Brom have brought Oliver Burke back to English football from Leipzig, beating Crystal Palace in the race for the Scotland and former Nottingham Forest winger.

The 20-year-old moved to Germany from Forest for £13 million last summer but struggled to settle. “I’m here, I want to impress and I want my name to be first on the team sheet,” he said.
